Subject: "2004 INTERNATIONAL YACHTING SYMPOSIUM, POROS, GREECE" - MAY 9-13, 2004


This year's "3rd INTERNATIONAL YACHTING SYMPOSIUM 2004" in Poros, Greece included a series of lavish fetes and happenings! The exclusive annual yachting event displayed a striking array of FIFTY-FIVE MEGA yachts, in POROS for viewing. The fifty-three sleek motor and sailing yachts plus accompanying exhibition presented only a selection of Greek Mega Yachts available on the market for charter. The 3IYS2004 event was hosted by the Hellenic Professional Yacht Owners Association (HPYOA) and the Hellenic Yacht Brokers Association (HYBA), Coordinated by iForce Communications S.A., and Under the Aegis of the Municipality of the Island of POROS. Generous sponsorship and support was provided by PLOKAT and BOAT International Group. Participation at the 2004 event included over (300) international brokers, owners and VIP guests from France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, U.K. and the USA to name a few.

The Symposium opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony inaugurated by Minister of Tourism, H.E. Dimitris Avromopoulos, and followed by a VIP reception hosted by the Mayor of Poros, H.E. Spyros Spyridon, on the grounds of the posh, nineteenth century Naval Academy overlooking the harbor.

The HIGHLIGHT to this year's event, was the Wine Tasting Forum entitled, "Understanding Greek Wine", presented by Wine Master and Author, Mr. Nico Manessis. The two-hour wine tasting included a selection of up-and-coming Greek vineyards such as, Sigalas, Estate Biblia Chora and Alpha Estate, to name a few. The Wine Tasting tied into the Symposium's complimentary theme, "The Greek Islands as a Yachting Destination". Topics covered were Greek wine varieties, regions and styles. Manessis discussed and disseminated know-how on how to properly taste, purchase, store and collect wine. This year's tasting highlighted a select presentation of exclusive Greek vintages for the sophisticated and discriminating palette. Sponsorship for the 3IYS2004 Wine Tasting Forum was provided by CAVA HALARI.

Wine Master and Author, Nico Manessis' experience includes vineyard management, wine production, marketing and fine wine advisory services which span Europe and the U.S.A. with more than 20 years experience. He is the author of the "Illustrated Greek Wine Book" and has contributed to numerous books and publications. He is a member of the Academie Internationale du Vin and resides in Geneva, Switzerland.

Last but not least, the annual Gourmet Chef Competition was sizzling with heated competition PLUS all the fabulous culinary delights! The hot question of who was going to take the "Golden Spoon Award 2004" was resolved when the talented Chef, Mr. Necatarios Patronias, of the Mega Yacht, "AQUARIUS L" was presented with the prized award at the closing reception.

Other festivities for 2004 included Traditional Greek Dances, Forum's addressing the "Current Status of Yachting in Greece" and "Greek Islands as a Yachting Destination". Finally, a leisure cruise aboard select Mega Yachts navigated the guests back to Athens - DOLCE VITA!!!
